Tony Power is a seasoned and highly respected Technical Director with over 40 years of comprehensive experience in architectural design, project delivery, and operations leadership. A graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology, Tony began his career with Fewer Harrington & Partners (FHP) in 1980. Since then, he has grown into a key figure in the firm’s development, serving as a core member of the Senior Management Team, where he plays an instrumental role in shaping the firm’s operational strategy and guiding its execution across a diverse portfolio of complex architectural projects.
In his role as Technical Director for Pivotal International, Tony holds ultimate responsibility for the coordination, delivery, and technical integrity of projects from inception through to handover. His remit includes oversight of operations management, resource planning, staff deployment, quality assurance, and project implementation on both domestic and international fronts. Tony’s deep understanding of the full lifecycle of architecture allows him to bridge the gap between strategic planning and on-the-ground execution, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to the highest design and construction standards.
Tony’s leadership extends across the entire architectural spectrum of the firm. He interacts with all project teams within the practice—providing strategic guidance, troubleshooting complex technical challenges, and maintaining a robust quality control framework across all stages of design and delivery. His role demands a constant balancing of creative vision with technical feasibility, and his ability to lead multidisciplinary teams with clarity and focus has made him an indispensable asset to the firm’s success.
Throughout his career, Tony has worked on a vast range of building typologies including industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare, commercial, residential, educational, and leisure developments. His hands-on approach, particularly in on-site project management, distinguishes his leadership style. He believes strongly in being present – collaborating with contractors, clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure that every detail is executed with precision and intent.
In parallel with his role at FHP, Tony serves as Operations Director for Architecture at Pivotal International, extending his expertise to a global platform. This dual responsibility reflects the depth of his operational acumen and his ability to deliver value across diverse project environments. At Pivotal International, Tony oversees architecture delivery in multiple jurisdictions, ensuring integration with broader multidisciplinary teams and aligning execution strategies with international codes, standards and cultural expectations.
Tony is widely recognised as the practice’s leading authority on industrial and healthcare architecture, with particular distinction in the pharmaceutical sector. His specialist knowledge in Process Architecture, combined with an in-depth understanding of modern manufacturing systems, cleanroom protocols, and regulatory frameworks, enables him to guide highly technical projects from early briefing through to operational readiness. His collaborative approach to client engagement – often through structured briefing workshops – ensures that design solutions are not only visionary but grounded in the technical and functional realities of advanced production environments.
Over the years, Tony has led or contributed to major projects across Ireland, the UK, the United States, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, gaining invaluable experience navigating different planning systems, construction cultures, and technical requirements. This global perspective, coupled with his rigorous attention to detail, allows him to apply a strategic lens to each project, while remaining grounded in real-world delivery.
Tony’s leadership is defined by a commitment to excellence, accountability, and innovation. He is a mentor to younger professionals within the practice, fostering a culture of learning, diligence, and continuous improvement. His enduring contribution to FHP and Pivotal International reflects not only his technical expertise, but also his integrity, reliability and unwavering dedication to the built environment.
