Regional Director MEP & Sustainability
Jason Smith is a seasoned engineering leader and Regional Director at Pivotal International, with over 30 years of combined experience in the roles of Design Engineer, Project Engineer, and Project Director. His career spans both Irish and international markets, and he is widely recognised for his expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems design, integrated project delivery and sustainable building performance strategies.
Jason’s extensive portfolio includes a wide array of high-profile developments across the commercial, industrial, hospitality, leisure and healthcare sectors. His ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and align building services with environmental performance goals makes him a central figure in driving Pivotal’s sustainability agenda alongside its MEP design leadership.
Jason began his professional journey with the Property Services Agency (PSA) in the United Kingdom, where over an impactful eight-year period, he led a series of complex engineering projects for public sector infrastructure. He quickly distinguished himself through technical excellence and leadership, becoming one of the youngest engineers to attain Senior Engineer Grade within the PSA. This early achievement marked the beginning of a career built on a foundation of rigorous standards, collaborative delivery and technical innovation.
His international experience is particularly notable – Jason has successfully delivered engineering and infrastructure solutions for overseas military installations in Belize, Ascension Island, the Falkland Islands and Gibraltar. These assignments required a high level of adaptability, cultural awareness and operational coordination, often in logistically complex and environmentally sensitive locations. These projects not only refined his technical acumen but also broadened his approach to resilient and sustainable infrastructure delivery under diverse and challenging conditions.
At Pivotal International, Jason leads both MEP design strategy and sustainability integration across the firm’s projects. His approach emphasises whole-life building performance, balancing energy efficiency, occupant comfort, environmental compliance and cost-effectiveness. He works closely with clients, architects and consultants to embed low-carbon solutions, renewable technologies and smart building systems into project frameworks from the earliest design stages.
Jason is also a key contributor to Pivotal International’s strategic direction, providing leadership in advancing the firm’s commitment to climate-conscious design, environmental stewardship and regulatory excellence. His knowledge of energy codes, green building certification systems, and performance benchmarking supports clients in meeting ambitious sustainability targets while maintaining program and budget alignment.
Respected for his technical depth, solution-oriented mindset, and strong leadership, Jason fosters a collaborative, forward-thinking environment within his teams. He is committed to continuous innovation and professional development, mentoring emerging engineers and contributing to the evolution of sustainable engineering practices within the built environment.
Jason’s team take a data-led approach to optimising solutions for clients with expertise in IoT, Metering and Industry 4.0.
As Director of MEP & Sustainability, Jason continues to deliver transformative engineering outcomes that meet the evolving demands of a low-carbon future shaping smarter, healthier and more sustainable buildings across Ireland and beyond.
