Andrew Hayden is a seasoned and visionary architectural leader with over 27 years of experience delivering transformative, award-worthy projects across Ireland, the Middle East and beyond. As Director for Architecture at Pivotal International, he leads the architectural direction of the practice, guiding the creative process from concept through to execution and ensuring design excellence across all scales of the built environment.
Since joining Pivotal International, Andrew has been instrumental in shaping the firm’s architectural output. His portfolio includes significant large-scale developments, urban design frameworks and master planning initiatives that reflect a deep understanding of context, functionality and sustainable innovation. From dense urban interventions to regionally significant planning projects, Andrew’s work demonstrates a clear commitment to enhancing quality of life through thoughtful, people-focused design.
Prior to his tenure at Pivotal International, Andrew spent 26 years at KMD Architecture, where he advanced to the role of Associate in 2002. During this time, he served as Lead Designer and Project Architect across a diverse array of complex developments, including commercial offices, residential schemes, airport infrastructure, retail centers, mixed-use environments and hospitality venues. Notably, his extensive work at Dublin Airport highlighted his ability to integrate complex logistics and infrastructure within a cohesive architectural vision, balancing technical performance with passenger experience.
Andrew’s design approach is rooted in creative leadership, strategic thinking and sustainability. He is a strong advocate for climate-responsive architecture, integrating environmental performance and long-term resilience into each phase of the design process. His leadership style is collaborative and inclusive – he mentors design teams, nurtures emerging talent and champions a studio culture grounded in curiosity, critical thinking, and continuous improvement.
A graduate of DIT Bolton Street with a Degree in Architecture, Andrew is a registered member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). He is deeply engaged in the architectural community, frequently collaborating with peers in education and contributing to discourse on urbanism, placemaking and design innovation.
Widely respected for his integrity, expertise and clarity of vision, Andrew is not only a skilled designer but also a strategic thinker who understands how architecture contributes to the broader social, cultural and environmental fabric.
